Rep. Clem Smith, a Democrat, represents parts of St. Louis County (District 85) in the Missouri
House of Representatives.
He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2010. Rep. Smith serves as Deputy Minority Whip, and is assigned to the Joint Committee on Tax Policy, Elections, Select Committee on Utilities (Ranking member), and the Select Committee on Labor and Industrial Relations (Ranking Member). Smith also serves on the Executive Board of the National Black Caucus of State Legislators, and is 2nd Vice President of the National Labor Caucus of State Legislators.
In addition to his legislative duties Rep. Smith works for The Phillips 66 Company and is a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399, Missouri State Workers Union (CWA Local 6355), the Coalition of Black Trade Unionist, and Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Clem was elected Delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2012, and 2016.
Rep. Smith received his bachelor’s degree from Columbia College.
